Hendrik Tieben

Hendrik TiebenHendrik Tieben is an Associate Professor at the School of Architecture of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). At CUHK, he serves as Director of the M.Sc. in Urban Design program and Assistant Director of the B.S.Sc. in Urban Studies program. Prof. Tieben received his architectural education in Germany, Italy and Switzerland and was awarded a doctoral degree from ETH Zurich. At CUHK, he teaches courses in urban design, history and theory. In his research, Prof. Tieben investigates transformations of urban forms and public space in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta. In 2016, he spent his sabbatical as guest researcher at the Chair for International Urbanism at the Technical University of Berlin in context of the joint Erasmus Mundus project “Urban Lab+” focusing on trends in urban studies and design education in the Global North and South. In 2015, he joined the ANCB Metropolitan Lab project “Mobilising the Periphery”. Hendrik Tieben’s research was published in a range of professional and academic journals. He is a Founding Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design and a registered architect in Germany
